As the fundraising mascot of this special charity, Paddington has helped to raise millions of pounds to help fund vital medical research into many serious diseases and conditions, affecting both young and old.
Every June, the charity links up with schools and nurseries all over the UK to celebrate Paddington’s birthday through the Bring Your Bear event. The idea is a very simple one and it’s easy for schools to take part. Each child makes a £1 donation and in return they can bring their teddy bear or favourite soft toy into class for the day.
Paddington wants as many children as possible to join in the fun and most schools choose to create a whole day of activity around Bring Your Bear. This year’s event also has a new twist, Paddington’s Suitcase Challenge, a creative sponsored challenge for children to get involved in.
The money raised by Bring Your Bear supports the charity’s Touching Tiny Lives appeal, which funds much-needed research into pregnancy complications and premature birth.
In 2007 Bring Your Bear raised more than £86,000. Action Medical Research wants to mark Paddington’s 50th anniversary in 2008 by raising more than ever before. So please join Paddington and be part of an extra special Bring Your Bear event this June!
