Paddington Bear's New Year Marmalade Sandwich Makeover
A New Year nationwide hunt is underway to spruce up Paddington Bear’s world-famous marmalade sandwich in time for his 50th Anniversary.
“It’s time for a marmalade sandwich make-over," declared Caroline Dale of Carlisle-based Carrs Breadmaker - part of Carr’s Milling Industries which is sponsoring the World Marmalade Festival in February.
The four-day event is being held at Dalemain in the Lake District - where Paddington Bear will celebrate his half century.
Paddington Bear creator Michael Bond is patron of the festival which crowns the best jar of marmalade in the world and raises money for Hospice at Home.
“I want people to come up with sandwich fillings that include marmalade and other ingredients - to help Paddington have a very special anniversary feast," said Caroline. "Lots of people mix cheese with marmalade but there must be hundreds of other combinations that are equally as tasty."
The top three combinations will be taste-tested by the thousands of visitors expected at the Marmalade Festival at Dalemain Country House, Ullswater, between 7 - 10 February.
The winner as voted by the public will win a luxury weekend break for two at Storr’s Hall, Lake Windermere in the Lake District.
